Additional Notes: These pumps have never been installed. These are model 2012 octopus pumps that have some sort of drive circuitry mounted to a cast aluminum housing attached to the back of the pump. We cannot figure out what the circuitry does, but we imagine it was some sort of variable speed control prototype or part of an obscure autopilot system as we have not seen anything like it.

The good news is that the entire aluminum housing and circuit board can be removed which will leave you with two short drive wires that can be connected to your existing AP motor wires. Please note that the design of the 2012 has changed over the years – make a note of where the hydraulic outlet connections are (coming out of the front of the pump as opposed to the top) and be sure this is compatible with your existing setup.

Please note – this cast aluminum housing was a poor casting and thus, has small cracks throughout. It was not made by Octopus and its condition has no bearing on the condition or quality of the pump. The pump itself is in great shape, albeit with some shelf rash from being moved around with other equipment in storage bins. We recommend giving the pump a few turns with a flathead screwdriver (commutator has a notch exposed at the rear of the pump) before installing as these haven’t been run in years and that will free up the bearings/brushes.

Compatible Parts: Autopilots utilizing 12v reversing pumps – capacity is 1000-2000 cubic cm/min, or 1.0-2.0 L/min – Flow is adjustable, this can be used on Raymarine, Simrad, Furuno, and other major brands that use a simple reversing pump – will not work for any Garmin autopilot. Check the flow rate of your current pump to be sure the 1-2L/min is compatible.
